This is the first snapshot I took. At the time, I had just gotten off of Help Island. For some reason, I never went to Orientation Island like I was supposed to. Anyway, I did not like my starting avatar (I looked like a wood elf), so I learned about the advanced menu to get me a base model. There was nothing going on here, but the experience was interesting. This was before I went to Orientation Island. Otherwise I would have turned around. The base model looked too generic. I already ran into three identical copies. After I looked around some, I was going to look for a place to get free clothes.
When I logged back on, I landed here again. I decided to change my shirt. I look better now. Actually, it is the same shirt colored black.
This was my first notable place to visit. It made me think of the opportunities that were here in Second Life. This was my first experience with camping. It works by choosing a designated place to sit and stay there for a fixed time for money. This is definitely different from the real world. If I keep the account, I will try that sometime. I will just be sure that I am doing something else on the computer at the time. Otherwise, it is a complete waste of time and money. Anyway, the class was empty. It was a Saturday.
Here, I am at the international spaceflight museum. I found it educational. If only they did this in real life. Then again, it would not be affordable. Watch your step, in some areas, you can walk off the platform and plummet to Earth like in the next two photos.
The top photo was a freefall into the atmosphere. The second time I took the parachute and landed in style in the ground portion of the exhibit. With the exception of falling from outer space, it was realistic. This was a good place to visit.
At the time I found this place, I was thinking, “It’s about time I found this”. In real life, I am a fan of pro wrestling. This photo was taken at a random time as a reminder to come back. The show on Saturday was cool for being in Second Life. Some of the animation was choppy. Would have taken photos of the event itself, but I did not want to miss anything. I wish I tipped them. I had $4L. I should have asked someone how.
This was the group meeting I had. Michelle and Jim were unable to make it. Our instructors Kelly and Jim (the two on the left) met Michelle and I (the two on the right). I turned around for the shot. I should have zoomed in. Overall, I decided that Second Life meetings can be more of a pain than regular chats. On the other hand, it was more interesting and novel to do it this way.
This is me before I entered the self-titled, “House of Hell”. I came here because I remembered the in-class demonstration, so I wanted to check it out for myself. I think that it is a bit off, because the voices started before I did. I did not even get the badge yet. Again, there are no photos inside, because I did not want to kill the illusion. Maybe I could have gone in again though. It was invigorating in a weird sort of way. I always did like the idea of virtual reality, but I was hoping for more in this “life”.
Here, I am at a place to get free stuff. This is the lucky chair game. The game is played by finding a chair with the same letter as the first letter of your user name. I won $3L from one of these seats. I felt wealthy considering that I put no money into it. This money will go towards donation (Most likely SLCW). Anyway, I found other places to get free stuff, but this is the most entertaining. For some reason, I like looking for chairs with the letter D on them.
I did not go inside, but it made me think of how far some people are willing to take virtual reality seriously. Personally, any wedding I have will be in a real place with a woman that I meet in real life. I would not do this even as a joke.
Overall experience: It was fun, but it cannot replace reality. The main thing I just could not understand was why people spend real money on virtual things. Looking at a computer screen for that long gets irritating. Now if it were more interactive, such as moving while moving like in that one video and special 3-D glasses to see what my avatar would see would be much better. At the moment, I cannot say whether or not I will continue with Second Life.
